Project Details

The existing opening was too narrow for delivery vans and larger vehicles to access the property safely, creating both practical and aesthetic challenges.

Our experienced landscaping team carefully designed and constructed a wider driveway entrance that provides improved vehicle access while complementing the character and setting of the historic property.

Marshalls Drivesys ® Cobbles

Hortlands opted for Marshalls Drivesys ® cobbles for the new driveway opening due to their durability, aesthetic appeal, and compatibility with the historic barn’s architecture. The cobblestones’ natural texture and colour seamlessly blended with the surrounding landscape, creating a harmonious visual experience.

Reclaimed York Cobbles

To add a touch of rustic charm and sustainability to the landscaping design, Hortlands repurposed reclaimed York cobbles to create a path and hard-standing area for the log store and garden sheds. This thoughtful reuse of materials not only reduced environmental impact but also added a unique character to the overall landscaping design.

Corten Steel

Corten steel, with its distinctive weathered patina, was incorporated as an edging material and retaining feature for planting areas. The Corten steel’s modern industrial aesthetic provided a striking contrast to the historic barn’s traditional architecture, creating a visually captivating contrast of styles.

Design and CAD Visualization

Our expertise in landscape design and CAD visualisation was instrumental in ensuring the project’s success. The team utilised their advanced CAD software to create a detailed plan for the driveway renovation, ensuring that every aspect of the project was carefully considered and executed with precision.

Challenges and Solutions

The key challenge was widening the driveway entrance without compromising the integrity or appearance of the historic barn. Our team carried out a detailed assessment of the site before developing a carefully considered approach that would minimise disruption to the surrounding property.

The works were planned and executed with precision, ensuring the existing structure remained protected throughout the project. By combining practical landscaping expertise with careful attention to detail, we created a wider, more accessible entrance that seamlessly integrates with the property.
