Hortlands were employed to consult on the regeneration of a large yew hedge that had suffered significant damage.
We recommended a tailored treatment programme to encourage the hedge to recover while protecting it from further damage. This included the fortnightly application of a deer deterrent spray, which helped keep the deer away from the hedge without causing them any harm, allowing the lower sections to recover safely.
We also introduced a high-nitrogen feeding programme to encourage strong, healthy new growth throughout the hedge. Once sufficient growth had developed, we began the gradual process of reshaping the hedge through skilled pruning and careful topiary work.
Over time, the yew hedges have been successfully restored to their former healthy condition. They are now looking their best and once again provide a strong structural element and key design feature within the gardens.
