Project Details
The brief has spanned intimate, plant-led garden spaces close to the house through to large-scale tree planting across the wider 2,000-acre estate — reflecting both the horticultural detail and the sheer scale that a project of this kind demands.
The work has been delivered in phases, allowing the design to develop in dialogue with the client and to respond to the character of each part of the grounds.

Beyond the garden itself, Hortlands’ work has extended into the wider 2,000-acre estate, where countless mature trees have been planted as part of the estate’s long-term landscape strategy — an investment in the character and ecology of the grounds for generations to come.
The Wherwell Priory estate represents a long-term collaboration between Hortlands and the client, combining fine horticultural detail with landscape works at a genuinely estate-wide scale. Work continues across the grounds, building on the framework established since 2023.
