The benefits of using a drone in landscape design

The use of drones has become increasing popular in many industries, including landscaping. Its a key tool that helps us to save time and money by streamlining the surveying process. It enables us as designers, to deliver true-to-life plans for landscaping and irrigation projects, helping the client to get a better visual on how the end design will look.

The average site survey can take up to 6 hours without the use of a drone, they ideally need two people, and leave plenty of room for human error. By using a drone to map out the site you can get the task done in 15 minutes, with just one person, leaving no room for human error! Drone images allow the experience of being on site, time and time again. They can be referred back to at any point in the design process, meaning the client will get a more thought out design that meets their personal requirements.

Another great advantage of using drome images to create a landscape design, is you can clearly plan around existing features of a garden. This includes trees, hedges, out buildings and structures that may need to be considered in terms of space and boundaries.

Drones are also great for returning to a site once the project has been completed. That way we can get clear view on how the entire garden space is looking and developing, making sure everything we designed and planned for has come to fruition.

As well as the time saving and cost effective benefits of using a drone onsite, there are also some more specific uses when it comes to irrigation mapping. By taking a drone shot of a site, especially a large site, you can show exact measurements and plots of where the irrigation systems will be placed, and the areas the water will cover. Thus meaning you can work out coverage for the garden down to the millimeter. Although this can be worked out without a drone, it makes the process far more precise and easy for the client to digest.
