We have recently been working on a new project here at Hortlands HQ, a new staff room for the team!
Since moving to our current yard, a good few years ago now, the team have been using a small tea come meeting room as their break area. As time has gone on, this room has been very much outgrown and it was time for a change. We have two storage containers, next to one another, that were not really being used to their full potential. So, we gave them a new lease of life and converted them into a new team space.
Our Projects Coordinator, Stuart, is very handy when it comes to DIY so we set him the task of designing and converting the storage containers into the new staff room. He mapped his design out on CAD and then got to work with the build.
The storage container doors were removed and replaced with a glass entrance door, then inside doorways were built and internal doors installed. The inside of the container was then boarded out and painted, benches and work surfaces built and installed, carpet laid, and smaller details addressed. We then contracted a local electrician to come in and sort the lights and power needed, and a local plumber to sort the sinks and toilet.
One side of the room is now a full kitchen and seating area for the whole team to use. Where they can eat, relax and use the space to work through admin as and when they need to. The other side has been sectioned into a toilet, changing room and drying room. There is ample space to hang clothes and store boots in the changing room, and the drying room is a very welcome addition for the team to hang wet clothes after a long rainy day at work.
A much needed job well done if you ask us!
