Hedsor House is a beautiful, exclusive and historic luxury wedding venue set on the border of Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. The Georgian country home is set within 100 acres of Grade II listed parkland that is lovingly looked after by Hortlands, and the staff at Hedsor.
Hedsor is often featured in publications as one of the most desirable places in the UK to get married, described by Vogue magazine as ‘their dream wedding venue’. Its integral that we contribute to maintaining this impeccable reputation by looking after the estate with the best care possible.
Our commercial grounds maintenance teams are highly experienced and have the knowledge to ensure the grounds are always looking their best throughout each season. Consistency is key to this, our dedicated teams attend the site 3 times a week, all year round. They follow a site-specific plan to maintain the gardens, making sure the estate always looks faultless.
These visits include:
As the grounds are so vast at Hedsor, a large part of our time there is spent mowing lawns. The large formal lawns are maintained with a mix of ride on and push mowers, depending on the requirements. Both efficiency and design are considered equally.
We cut all lawn areas on a weekly bias and then scarify the lawns of all moss and thatch twice a year. We also often apply herbicides to the formal lawns as and when they are needed.
There are a large number of stone urns throughout the gardens that we fill with seasonal plants. These displays are well thought out, shows of colour and texture, that are changed 3 times a year. Once they are planted up, each container is then fed and dead headed through out our visits.
We keep all flower beds and borders free from weeds, keep the edges sharp and to the shape of the original bed design. Ensure the final finish of the bed is managed, and topped up with soil where needed. Each plant is cared for and pruned to its specific requirements.
Our dedicated and experienced teams prune all specimen trees and hedges regularly, making sure they are always looking their best. We also apply pesticide and fungicide as a preventative measure in April, July and September to ensure everything stays looking as good as possible. The hedges in particular need regular attention as they play a key feature in the design of the gardens.
It is equally important that these areas are kept looking pristine, as they are what makes the first impression when you arrive at the house. The car park and paths are always blown of all leaves to ensure they are clean and tidy. Kept weed free and all waste is disposed of appropriately.
Hortlands were invited to tender for two of Arla foods UK-based factories for the full commercial grounds maintenance package.
Whilst working for the De Vere Group, Hortlands were invited to offer suggestions for some new planting ideas for the BMW Academy in Reading.
