Prior to our current grounds maintenance contract Hortlands were employed to consult on the regeneration of a large yew hedge which had succumbed to damage from the deer that roam the grounds, and some unfortunate poor pruning.
We recommended a treatment programme, which included the fortnightly application of a deer deterrent spray along with a feeding plan. The deterrent spray has allowed the bottom of the hedge to recover safely whilst keeping the deer away from the hedge with not harm to them.
We then carried out a high nitrogen feeding plan to promote as much new healthy hedge growth as possible. Once the additional growth had progressed we then begin the process of slowly reshaping the hedges with skillful pruning and topiary shaping.
The hedges are now back to their original healthy state and looking their best, making them a key design feature in the gardens.
